Majority vote
For this project we had to first make a circuit that could be used as an electronic voting machine. The switches on the circuit board represented the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer's votes for the election. If the combinations of votes meets the requirements, or the logic expression is true, the light will turn on.
Un-simplified Expression
This un-simplified circuit required 24 AND Gates and 7 OR Gates. It also required 4 inverters and 4 switches. The circuit would require 10 chips. 7 AND, 2 OR, and 1 Inverter chip.
Boolean Algebra
Boolean Algebra is a method used to simplify logic expressions.
P'VST+PV'S'T+PV'ST'+PV'ST+PVS'T'+PVS'T+PVST'+PVST
Simplified circuit
The simplified version less gates and chips. since it is less complicated, the current passes through more quickly. Also the it is harder to make mistakes when it is simplified. With the simplified version it only required 3 chips instead of needing 9.
Materials
Bread-borading
The 3 chips are the AND & OR Gates. Each one had to be connected to the power and ground. I had to connect to the ground and power on both sides so the current ran through both sides of the bridge.
Conclution
The first thing I did for this project was construct a truth table, 2nd create a logic expression and form a circuit from that expression. I used Boolean Algebra to simplify your logic expression. Then, using the logic expression, made a simplified circuit. After designing the circuit I built on a breadboard. The unsimplified expression is equal to the simplified one, but is easier to understand and to design a circuit .Through out this project I have learned a lot about bread boarding. I made a lot of mistakes which in the end gave me a better understanding of how the circuit works. One of the main things that you have to remember to do when bread boarding is Make sure you connect the - and + on each side to each other, so the current goes through each side.
